Fr. Tucker Hits One Out Of The Park

If liturgical issues in modern Catholicism do not interest you, skip the link. But you may be interested in the the quote from St. Ignatius of Loyola which Fr. Tucker alludes to, so I will reproduce it here:

… [E]very good Christian ought to be more willing to give a good interpretation to the statement of another than to condemn it as false. If he cannot give a good interpretation to this statement, he should ask the other how he understands it, and if he is in error, he should correct him with charity. If this is not sufficient, he should seek every suitable means of correcting his understanding so that he may be saved from error.

Astute Political Observation of the Day:

It won’t be long until some knucklehead (probably a presidential candidate) suggests a federal subsidy for the bread industry.

Fr. John Petuskey, RIP
Posted by Dave in Religion, Stuff on 11 8th, 2003| | No Comments »

A great man passed away today.

He didn’t write books, he wasn’t on TV, and as far as I know, he never cut an album. All he ever did for his entire adult life was serve the Church in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.

Some knew him as a disciplinarian at Bishop McGuinness High School, some knew him as a “Brick and Mortar” priest who built parishes and schools, some knew him as a leader in the community, who was a principled ecumenist and advocate for the poor. But most of those who knew him knew him as a shepherd.

That is what he was to me. He heard my first confession, was the first to offer me the body of Christ, and was a constant source of encouragement. He was a gentle, straightforward, powerful man who was everything a Catholic pastor should be.

He’ll only be remembered by those he touched, but he was a great man, nonetheless.

MAN CONVICTED FOR FOOD ABUSE

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) December 12, 2008

David Walker will begin a federal prison sentence today after being the first person convicted under the Federal “Nutrition Security Act”.

Walker, 42, was found guilty of eating a double bacon cheeseburger at a local restaurant, then failing to report the meal as exceeding his weekly calorie limit.

Walker’s attorney, Raymond Kroc III, unsuccessfully argued that as an American citizen, Walker has the right to make his own decisions regarding nutrition. United States Attorney Mal Carne said that Walker knew the government guidelines existed, but chose to flout them. “Mr. Walker is not above the law. Congress enacted this legislation because obesity was becoming a serious health problem and a threat to national security. He arrogantly decided to make his own decisions about what to eat, and he will have to pay the price for that.”

The restaurant that sold Walker the sandwich has been fined $50,000 for failing to verify his “foodchip”, the device used by food-selling establishments to ensure compliance with statute, sometimes known as the “Fat Act”. Carne noted that another violation of this kind will likely cause the restaurant to lose it’s federal food service license.
