Friends . . . gone.

This year is starting to look better and better.

Killing Terri
Posted by Dave in Culture, Politics, Religion on 05 6th, 2004| | No Comments »

Attempts to have the courts kill Terri Schiavo are gaining momentum again.

It sounds as if both Judge Baird’s ruling and this article were written by Micahel Schiavo’s lawyer.

Go here for the other side of the story.

Go here for a good piece by Nat Henthoff on the subject.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
Posted by Dave in Quote of the Day on 05 3rd, 2004| | No Comments »

To begin with: though it was probably the case that he was ill, and that it was his illness – depression – which made the world seem farcical, it was impossible to prove the case.

On the one hand, he was depressed.

On the other hand, the world is in fact farcical.

Walker Percy
Posted by Dave in Culture on 05 3rd, 2004| | No Comments »

I can’t believe I went so long without having read Walker Percy. The Second Coming is absolutely stunningly brilliant. He’s right up there with Fred Chappell as the greatest writer of the latter 20th century.

Perhaps the reason the story resonates so well with me is because the main character is a middle aged depressive. Nah. Coincidence.

Seriously, this is a great book. Dave sez “check it out”.
