Not only am I having serious FC Dallas withdrawals, I don’t even have Fox Soccer Channel or GolTV right now, because of the inability of the Dish Network contractor to attach a dish to my house. What gives?
Random Thoughts:
- Sam Allardyce: How do you not give this man at least three years to turn Newcastle around? He’s a world-class manager, yet he’s given the boot after barely half of a season. Short sighted and stupid, is my view of it. But Newcastle goes through managers like some teams go through boots; maybe there’s a correlation between the lack of success and the impatience of the board of directors.
- Carlos Ruiz: Goes back to Los Angeles. I can’t wait for the first time the Galaxy visit PHP this season to see how the crowd reacts to him. Carlos will be missed, but really, he never quite lived up to expectations. I’m also curious to see how a team with three prima donnas manages to get through an entire season without someone getting their eyes scratched out.
- MLS Combine and Super Draft: I wouldn’t mind attending both of these events, but since there’s no chance of that happening, I’m not all that excited about the whole deal. But if you’re into it, there is a ton of coverage out there. The best has got to be Buzz Carrick’s work on 3rd Degree. He’s actually reporting from the combine down in Florida this week. The man is dedicated.
- African Cup of Nations: I think someone should be televising the tournament in this country. With half the Premier League involved, it has got to be some entertaining soccer.
- Priorities: What am I going to do this spring? When I get my season tickets, I’ll immediately be torn between the 3-hour drive to Dallas and the $4.00-a-gallon price of gasoline I fully expect to see. I’d hitchhike, but I don’t the Lovely Cid would go for it.
